How do you choose time and attendance software in Morocco?

The best time and attendance software in Morocco is the one that reads your time clocks, applies the Moroccan Labour Code, handles all your sites and prepares payroll without re-keying. TEMPO is an online HRIS for companies in Morocco, with time and attendance as a module; this guide lists the criteria to check, HR included.

What is the best time and attendance software in Morocco?

There is no best software in absolute terms: there is the one that fits your time clocks, your hours and your payroll. For a Moroccan company, four requirements come first:

  1. It reads your current time clocks, usually ZKTeco or Hikvision, without buying everything again.
  2. It calculates hours under the Moroccan Labour Code: 44 hours a week, article 201 premiums, public holidays, Ramadan hours.
  3. It tracks several sites, with managers who see only their own scope.
  4. It produces a payroll-ready statement, without re-keying.

The table below lists the criteria to compare.

The criteria for comparing time and attendance software

  • Compatible time clocks

    The question to ask
Which brands and models, using which protocol, tested on real hardware or not?
    What TEMPO does
ZKTeco through the SDK protocol (port 4370) and Hikvision through ISAPI
  • Cloud or installed software

    The question to ask
Is a server or a PC left on needed at each site?
    What TEMPO does
Online: nothing to install, access from a browser; punches from all sites arrive in one place
  • Moroccan rules

    The question to ask
Does the calculation follow the Labour Code, and can the values be changed?
    What TEMPO does
44 h a week or a daily threshold, 25, 50 and 100% premiums by default, public holidays, Ramadan hours; everything is set per policy
  • Multi-site and multi-company

    The question to ask
Does each site have its own time clocks, public holidays and managers?
    What TEMPO does
Sites, companies and departments, with rights and scopes per site
  • Mobile clocking

    The question to ask
Can employees without a time clock clock in? With what checks?
    What TEMPO does
Web app for phones, with the GPS position compared with the site perimeter and a selfie depending on the site
  • Schedules

    The question to ask
Does it handle teams, nights, cycles and Ramadan?
    What TEMPO does
Day, night and flexible shifts, work cycles, standard week, schedule generator, Ramadan cycles
  • Leave, absences, anomalies

    The question to ask
Are requests and supporting documents handled in the tool?
    What TEMPO does
Leave, absences, exit slips, approval workflows, anomalies justified in one click
  • HRIS or time and attendance only

    The question to ask
Does time and attendance share its records with the personnel file, contracts, leave and payroll?
    What TEMPO does
Complete HRIS, on the same records as time and attendance
  • Payroll preparation

    The question to ask
What does it produce at month end, and in what format?
    What TEMPO does
Pay periods with closing, activity statement, integration reports, export templates, advances, payslip distribution
  • Language

    The question to ask
    Is the interface in French?
    What TEMPO does
    Interface fully in French
  • Data and security

    The question to ask
Who sees what, who changed what, is sensitive data protected?
    What TEMPO does
Two-step verification, roles and scopes, activity log, salaries and bank details (RIB) encrypted and masked

The selection criteria, the questions to ask each vendor and the answer of TEMPO.

Is the software compatible with my time clocks?

This is the first question, because replacing time clocks often costs more than the software. Ask for the list of models, the protocol used and which ones have been connected for real; see our catalogue.

Also ask what the site network needs: the ZKTeco or Hikvision comparison details these differences.

Online or installed time and attendance software?

From more than one site, online software is almost always the right choice: punches from all sites arrive in one place, with no PC to leave on in each store. The HR manager, the store manager and the accountant work on the same data, each with their own rights.

Ask the vendor where your data is hosted and how to get it back. See online time and attendance.

Does the hours calculation follow the Moroccan Labour Code?

Good Moroccan software applies the Labour Code by default and lets you adapt it to your collective agreement. In TEMPO, each attendance policy holds these rules:

  • Overtime threshold: beyond the scheduled day or beyond 44 hours a week.
  • Article 201 premiums: 25% by day and 50% at night on a working day; 50% and 100% on the rest day or a public holiday.
  • Payment or time off in lieu, hour for hour, depending on the policy.
  • Public holidays per site and Ramadan hours.

See the guides overtime in Morocco and legal working time.

Does the software really prepare payroll?

Preparing payroll means producing each month, per employee, the days worked, normal hours, overtime by rate, leave, absences and advances, then freezing those figures.

TEMPO does this with closed pay periods, an activity statement per employee, integration reports and export templates in your payroll software’s format, then payslip distribution. See payroll preparation.

Time and attendance software alone or an HRIS with a T&A module?

A time and attendance tool alone is enough when the rest of HR is already well kept elsewhere. An HRIS becomes preferable when the same employees live in three files: the time clock, the leave spreadsheet and the personnel file. The employee exists only once, and approved leave credits the day instead of marking it absent.

In TEMPO, time and attendance sits alongside the personnel file, contracts, leave, training, evaluations, occupational health, expenses and petty cash, mission orders, the fleet and equipment.

Do you need a mobile time and attendance app?

Yes, if some of your employees work without a time clock: sales reps, technicians, construction sites, small stores.

In TEMPO, the employee portal opens on the phone, with no app store. The employee clocks in within the site perimeter, with a selfie if needed, and checks their schedule, requests and payslips. See time and attendance app.

How do you compare data security?

Ask three questions: who can see what, who changed what, and how sensitive data is protected. In TEMPO, each role has its scope, the activity log keeps the before and after of every change, and salary and bank details (RIB) are encrypted and masked.

For biometric time clocks, law 09-08 also applies: see data security and the guide biometric clocking and the CNDP.

How do you test time and attendance software before buying it?

  1. 1

    Prepare a real month

Take the punches and schedules of a past month, with its nights, public holidays and overtime.

  2. 2

    Connect a real time clock

Connect a time clock from one site, because that is where network problems show up.

  3. 3

    Compare with your payroll

Every gap with your last payroll must be explained by the calculation details.

  4. 4

    Have managers use it

A site manager should approve leave and justify an anomaly alone, from their phone.

  5. 5

    Check the exit

Export your employees and punches to check that your data can leave the tool.

Questions fréquentes

What is the best time and attendance software in Morocco?

The one that reads your time clocks, calculates hours under the Moroccan Labour Code, handles your different sites and produces a payroll-ready statement. TEMPO does all four: ZKTeco and Hikvision, 44 hours and adjustable article 201 premiums, sites and scopes, activity statement and payroll exports. Always compare on a real month of your data.

Do you need an HRIS or simple time and attendance software?

Time and attendance software alone is enough if your personnel files, contracts and leave are already well kept in another tool. An HRIS avoids entering the same employees several times: with TEMPO, the file, contract, schedule, leave, punches and payroll preparation share the same record.

Is free time and attendance software enough?

For a small team on a single site, the software supplied with the time clock can be enough. It soon reaches its limits: a PC to keep on, no multi-site, few Moroccan overtime rules, and files to rework for payroll. Measure the time spent each month correcting punches.

How long does it take to set up time and attendance software?

It depends mostly on the time clocks and the site networks. Importing employees from Excel and creating shifts is quick; each time clock then needs its network connection. Plan one month in parallel with your current method before paying on the new software’s figures.
