2027 calendar. Religious holiday dates are estimated (Umm al-Qura calendar) and will be confirmed by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, often the day before, after the crescent moon is sighted.
Why do religious holiday dates change every year?
Religious holidays follow the lunar Hijri calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. So they move about ten days earlier each year.
In Morocco, the start of each Hijri month depends on the sighting of the crescent moon, announced by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, often the day before. Only give your teams a date after that announcement.
Which public holidays were added recently?
Two national holidays are recent: Amazigh New Year on 14 January, a public holiday since 2024, and Unity Day on 31 October, a public holiday since 2025. Check them if you reuse an old Excel file or software that has not been updated.
How are hours worked on a public holiday paid?
By default, TEMPO counts every hour worked on a public holiday as overtime, paid at +50% by day and +100% by night, like the weekly rest day (article 201 of the Labour Code). The setting follows your collective agreement. Details: overtime in Morocco.
Is a public holiday during leave deducted?
No: a public holiday that falls during paid leave is not taken off the balance. An employee on leave from 27 July to 1 August 2026 uses 5 days, not 6, because 30 July is Throne Day. See annual leave in Morocco.

Questions fréquentes
How many public holidays are there in Morocco?
The calendar has eleven fixed-date national holidays and four religious holidays: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha (2 days each), 1 Muharram (1 day) and Eid al-Mawlid (2 days). That makes 18 public holidays a year, slightly fewer when two holidays fall on the same day, as on 14 August 2027.
What are the public holidays in Morocco in 2027?
National holidays: 1, 11 and 14 January, 1 May, 30 July, 14, 20 and 21 August, 31 October, 6 and 18 November. Religious holidays, estimated dates: Eid al-Fitr on 9 and 10 March, Eid al-Adha on 16 and 17 May, 1 Muharram on 6 June, Eid al-Mawlid on 14 and 15 August. The Ministry of Habous confirms the religious dates.
Is 31 October a public holiday in Morocco?
Yes, since 2025: 31 October is Unity Day, a national public holiday. In 2026 it falls on a Saturday, in 2027 on a Sunday. Check that it appears in your schedules and software if they date from before 2025. The Moroccan calendar that TEMPO loads every year already includes it, like Amazigh New Year.
Is Amazigh New Year a public holiday?
Yes. 14 January, Amazigh New Year, has been a national public holiday since 2024. It falls on a Wednesday in 2026 and a Thursday in 2027. Like all national holidays, its date is fixed, unlike religious holidays, which follow the Hijri calendar.
How do you find the exact date of Eid in Morocco?
The date is announced by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs after the crescent moon is sighted, often the day before. Calendars published in advance, like the one in this guide, give an estimate to within a day. In TEMPO, Eid stays “to be confirmed” until you validate the announced date.
