Where should you install a time clock?
On the employees’ unavoidable path, at the staff entrance, indoors unless it is an outdoor model.
- Light: no backlight behind the person clocking in.
- Power and network: a socket and an Ethernet cable, or a PoE model.
- Power cuts: a backup battery or a UPS.
On a construction site, employees can clock in from their phone (see construction site time tracking).
How many time clocks does your workforce need?
At least one per staff entrance, sized for the peak time. If 150 people arrive between 07:50 and 08:00, plan two time clocks or a facial model.

Why a VPN or a restricted port for a ZKTeco time clock?
The TEMPO servers read the ZKTeco time clock over the network. A site VPN is the recommended option; forwarding port 4370 restricted to the TEMPO addresses also works.
Hikvision time clocks, on the other hand, send their punches to the cloud by themselves.
How do you set the time and the Africa/Casablanca time zone?
Each TEMPO site has a time zone, Africa/Casablanca by default. Set the time clock to local time (ZKTeco) or to the Casablanca time zone (Hikvision): TEMPO then compares its clock and corrects it automatically.
How do you enroll employees from TEMPO?
- Import employees from an Excel file.
- Add them to the time clock, one by one or by site: name, ID, badge and, on a facial Hikvision, a photo.
- Record fingerprints from the employee record, while the person places their finger.
- Name the time clock’s administrators.

Set up its network so it reaches the Internet over HTTPS, register it in TEMPO, then copy the sending address shown on its page into the time clock’s HTTP Listening. Choose the Casablanca time zone. Make a test punch: it appears in TEMPO within a second.

How many time clocks do you need for 100 employees?
It depends mostly on how many people arrive at the same time. If all 100 employees start within the same quarter of an hour, a single fingerprint time clock often creates a queue: plan two or a facial model. If arrivals are spread out, one time clock per entrance is usually enough.
Do you need a technician to install a time clock?
